About the Job
This role will work in the (iBAM) in our Mouse Core. This role will
contribute to mouse colony organization and maintenance, using our
laboratory's mouse cloud database to create specimen labels,
archiving biological samples, supply ordering, molecular biology
techniques including immunoblotting and qRT-PCR, animal necropsies,
tissue preservation, shipment of biological samples and recording
healthspan data in the database. Continuing self-motivated
education in aging research is expected.
Essential and other Functions:
50% Laboratory Research
Assist in coordinating animal tissue dissections for efficient
sample collection for experimental needs. Animal husbandry, mouse
colony management, collect and record data collected on live
animals, mouse necropsies, collection and preservation of
biological samples, performs IVIS imaging, dosing mice for drug
studies, communicates with RAR veterinary staff concerning animal
health cases, facilitates animal transfers, monitors health of
experimental animals.
25% Sample and Data Management
With supervised oversight, use the lab's unique colony management
database to create animal identifiers and cage cards, prepare
necropsy reports and labels for biologic samples, archive samples
in the tissue bank and ship biological samples to collaborators,
maintain up to date records of culling and anesthesia logs.
25% Cellular and Molecular biology
With supervised oversight, prepare tissue lysates, isolate RNA and
protein, quantitate nucleic acids and protein levels, perform
qRT-PCR, PCR genotyping, nucleic acid and protein electrophoresis,
prepare and refresh cell culture media. Establishing and
maintaining mouse embryonic fibroblasts and culture of neuronal
cell lines for functional assays.

iBAM is part of the growing Geroscience movement that aims to
attack the numerous debilitating diseases associated with old age
through slowing or reversing the aging process itself. iBAM faculty
study aging biology with the goal of developing drugs to target
