Northrop Grumman is currently seeking an experienced Manager to lead program engineering teams responsible for the development and manufacture of Medium Caliber Ammunition (MCA) for various branches of the United States Military as well as an international commercial customer base. This position will reside with the Armament Systems Program Office based in Plymouth, MN but will provide support for multiple internal and external manufacturing sites around the US.
Position Description:
As a strategic member of the MCA Engineering leadership, the Engineering Manager is responsible for ensuring all activities in given area of responsibility employ technical rigor and sound engineering processes to facilitate an efficient and high performing culture. The successful candidate will be relied upon to lead, coach, and direct engineering team members in efforts which support business unit deliverables and strategic objectives, drive timely and data-driven decision making, and growth of the team to increasingly higher levels of performance.
Role Description & Responsibilities:


  • Provide daily guidance, direction, and performance feedback to a cross functional group of technicians and/or engineers with assignments of moderate-to-complex technical difficulty.
  • Set and promote high standards for quality and safety.
  • Foster a working environment which reinforces and drives accountability to fundamental Northrop Grumman values focused on integrity, quality, shared success, and innovation.
  • Partner with engineering and program management peers to assure a balanced and efficient assignment of resources to support all MCA Programs and achievement of key performance metrics.
  • Partner with internal and external customers and stakeholders to assure customer and corporate strategic objectives are being satisfied, and to create an environment that working level engineering teams embrace.
  • Coach, support, and mentor team members to ensure a high level of performance.
  • Create and maintain development and succession plans for all team members.
  • Initiate and lead continuous improvement activities to establish effective and efficient engineering processes.
  • Lead and/or oversee investigations and failure analyses related to product or process performance deficiencies to assign definitive root cause and corrective actions.
  • Represent and communicate Northrop Grumman technical recommendations and product performance information to internal and external customers in various forums including program technical reviews, proposal reviews, and executive level summaries as required.
  • Collaborate with peers and direct management in resource planning and hiring activities.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • B.S. in Engineering or related technical field.
    • 10 years of direct engineering experience.
    • Minimum of 5 years prior experience managing/leading direct reports.
    • Effective written and oral communication skills.
    • Experience with Failure Analysis and root cause determination.
    • Experience with new product and/or manufacturing process development.
    • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
    • Must be able obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance as job requirements dictate.

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Ammunition design and/or manufacturing experience.
      • Experience working directly with customers, vendors, and subcontractors.
      • Prior experience with production of defense industry products and/or experience with Government technical agencies.
      • Proven track record of effectively developing direct reports at various levels and disciplines to higher levels of performance and responsibility.
      • Experience and training in statistical process control and/or statistical analysis.

        Salary Range: $131,800 - $197,600
        The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
        Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
